Girls Track has Successful First Meet @ Upper Darby

Game Date
Mar 24, 2018

The Girls Track team had a very solid opening meet at the Upper Darby Relays Saturday 3/24.  Every girl who ran, really put herself out there and competed well against the other girls running in her respective heats.  The weather conditions, particularly the wind, were not kind , so the times may not be as fast as some would have liked, but the effort certainly was there.  To kick off the day, we had three girls running the 300 hurdles.  It was Sophomore Alexis Lohin's first time in the event, and she did not disappoint.  She ran 55.42. Seniors Sydney Rubin and Becca Scoll ran in the next section, going 56.90 and 57.29, respectively.  Their relay was 5th overall, and earned them LM's lone medals of the day.

Next, the Sprint Relay took the track.  Amajei Dunkley led off the first 200 leg, with an excellent reaction time and start, and ran a split of 29.73 - it is clear that her work indoors has helped!  Next, freshman Amy Zesinger took the baton, and, in her first ever race, ran a solid second 200m leg, going 31.63 for her split.  Next, Nicole Castor took off on the 400m leg, and ran a great leg on a windy day.  Nicole has only been practicing for 2 days, and was up to the challenge.  She split 67.23, and helped close the gap on the field.  Jamie Mayer anchored the relay, and ran a very strong 800m leg in 2:38.21 (34/72/1:52).  She especially ran excellent for 600m, but the wind really took its toll on her and everyone else, which made finishing incredibly difficult in all events.  The relay, overall, ran 4:47.41, which was good enough for 6th overall out of 38 teams, just out of the medal positions. The 4x8 followed the SMR, and finished 4th in their heat, good enough for 16th overall, out of 30 teams.  They ran an overall time of 11:31.40, and three of the legs on the relay are new to this event this year.  The lone 800m veteran, Sara Yi, showed that she is fit, and picked up where she left off last Spring.  Freshman Nicole Roche ran a very nice lead off leg, in her first 800 ever, going 2:53.28 (40/82/2:09).  Junior Sandy Hua, in her first 800 ever, also ran very strong, going 2:54.87 (38/80/2:08).  Sara Yi, as referenced above, ran a strong 3rd leg in 2:55.09, and Senior, Sydney Rubin, in her first outdoor 800 ever, anchored in 2:47.01 (40/80/2:05), coming off of the hurdles earlier.  As I said earlier, all were extremely competitive, racing at the front of their section for the entire race.  The effort was certainly there, and I would not be surprised to see all four of them going low 2:40s or better in some nicer weather! The 4x200 came next, and saw four girls each running their 2nd events of the day.  This relay finished 21st overall, out of 48 teams, in a time of 2:00.95.  Amajei ran another great lead off leg with another excellent start, in 29.83, Jamie Mayer ran the 2nd leg in a speedy 28.58, Amy ran a great leg into a tough wind, going 31.75, and Becca anchored in a solid 29.96. To end the day, we had 2 4x400 relays take the track, all of whom were running either their 2nd or 3rd events of the day, respectively.  The "B" relay ran 4:52.29, good for 32nd overall, out of 43 teams.  Nicole Roche led off in 73.54, Sara Yi ran a big PR on a lousy day, going 70.96, Alexis went 72.32, and Amajei anchored in 75.15.  The "A" relay finished 18th out of 43 teams to end the day, in a time of 4:38.24.  Jamie Mayer led off, going 65.38, Nicole Castor took the track next, going 67.99, Sandy Hua was third, running 71.93, and Sydney Rubin anchored in 72.78. This meet certainly proved to be an excellent workout for the 10 young ladies who competed.  A lot of positive things came from the meet, with solid performances all around, and a lot of positive attitudes all around.
