Lower Moreland Athletics Update Grades 7-12 ( December 23rd )

Hello,

Below you will see some important information with regards to our high school and middle school athletic programs here at Lower Moreland Township School District.

PIAA & High School UPDATES:

PIAA decided to reduce the number of practices from 15 to 10, before you compete in a game/match/meet.
- We were one of a few schools in our division to even begin any type of practices prior to the three week shutdown.
- We are still awaiting decisions on one school district as well on whether or not they will be participating in athletics this winter.
- After that has been decided, I can work with league ADs to finalize our winter schedules.
- My hopes are to have our schedules finalized by Wednesday January 6th.
Another item with regards to practices is as follows. If our team's practice schedule has been interrupted and the team is unable to practice for more than..
- 7 days - a team must complete 2 days of practice
- 10 days - a team must complete 3 days of practice
- 14 days - a team must complete 4 days of practice
Similar to what was done in the fall, the regular season winter deadline has been pushed back to March 27th 2021. We can schedule games up until that date, even if we fail to qualify or are eliminated from postseason play.

PIAA Championships in person on April 9-10
District I Championships in person (if we can find a site) March 20th or 27th

Wrestling:

Swimming:

PIAA Championships
- Championship site still TBD
- 16 PIAA Qualifiers each event
District I Championships
- Championship sites, qualifiers, dates are still TBD

Basketball:

PIAA Playoffs: District Champions Only
B/G Seed Meeting: It has been pushed back from February 14th until March 3rd.
District I will adjust the set the qualifiers into the playoffs next month.

Track & Field

- Outdoor meets must follow Indoor Track Events -- no relays

- Anticipate Indoor Track to end no later than March 6th to start the Spring Season on March 8th.

- Indoor League schedule will be adjusted slightly.

Murray Avenue Athletics Update

There are currently 5 schools playing basketball this winter for both Girls and Boys. Those schools are:
- Murray Ave (LM)
- Upper Moreland
- Sandy Run (Upper Dublin)
- Cedarbrook (Cheltenham)
- Abington

Girls Basketball:

We will begin tryouts/practice on Tuesday January 5th 2021. Games will begin the week of January 25th and go until February 19th. The current league structure for games is to play on Monday, Wednesdays, & Fridays with games beginning at 3:30 (8th grade) 4:30 (7th Grade). Some schools may adjust the times slightly based on when they dismiss from school for the day.
Game schedule will be on the lmtsdathletics.com website early next week.

Boys Basketball:

The boys will start their tryouts/practice on February 22nd. Similar to the girls schedule, games will be held on Monday, Wednesdays & Fridays. The season will go up til the last week of March.

Wrestling:

At this point every school but us and Abington has canceled MS Wrestling. I am working with Abington to see if we want to try a mini season, but that is still very much up in the air.
